A home we had the privilege of working on in NW Portland recently hit the market. Tucked into that listing, alongside the square footage and the photos, is a mention of our remodeling work as part of what makes this home special.
That's not something we asked for and it means more because of that.
Over the course of our relationship with these homeowners, we collaborated on several areas throughout the home: the kitchen, bathrooms, and a light-filled dining nook. Each guided by the same principle we bring to every project; that a thoughtful remodel should feel timeless and function beautifully, for however long you call a place home.
What we're most proud of isn't any single detail. It's that this family trusted us with their home more than once. Repeat clients are the best measure of this work.

As this home enters the market, it carries that investment forward - in its design, its functionality, and the craftsmanship built into every room.
We had so much fun creating this custom Murphy bed designed for a guest room!
The piece features a drop-down desk on the front, allowing the room to function as a workspace when the bed is tucked away. We designed this piece to incorporate a sentimental family heirloom—a myrtlewood desktop made by our client’s father. While the original desk couldn’t be fully salvaged, we preserved what we could and integrated it into the drop-down desktop, turning it into a meaningful focal point of the bed.
Earlier this year, we introduced Skilled Carpenter Services—an elevated, detail-driven option for smaller projects, home updates, and repairs. It’s been a wonderful way to support our clients beyond full remodels.

As we step into a new year, I wanted to pause for a moment and share a look behind the scenes at Maughan Design + Remodel. The past year was a meaningful one—full of milestones and craftsmanship.
This year marked 30 years in business for Maughan Design + Remodel—an anniversary that prompted reflection on the relationships, homes, and people that have shaped our work.
We also celebrated a personal milestone close to my heart: Crystal Ludwick, our Head of Design, marked 20 years with the company in October! She began as an intern and has grown alongside Maughan, helping shape both our design department and our culture. Her leadership, integrity, and care are felt in every project.
